O Children of the World. . . by Sylvia Ashton-Warner

from FIRST PERSON PRESS

LIMITED NUMBER OF COPIES AVAILABLE - Collector's Edition

This collection of children's stories and songs, written by the eminent New Zealand author and educator was privately published in 1974 in Vancouver by her friend and collaborator Dan Rubin. The stories, accompanied by musical scores and drawings, are endearing and evocative. They also embed the author's belief in the natural creativity of children and transmit her strong values about education and life. A wonderful resource for early childhood educators and parents to share with young children.

This long-awaited book is a collection of songs and stories for children, and represents work developed over forty years. They include settings of melodies by classical composers as well as traditional Maori songs, and original lullabies.

Eight of these songs are linked with stories told here. From the Maoris to the moon, they tell us what feelings are for. Some were originally written in New Zealand, while others were created while the author was based in Vancouver developing materials for teachers to use in the classroom. Some have versions for dance or movement, and most are presented in piano score.

This book is ideal for classroom use, as well as providing material for bedtime stories and lullabies for parents to share with their children in the home. O Children of the World. . . is rich in the feelings it captures, in poetry of word, and music.
